The gist

Since the beginning of the SymbolSource project in December, 2009, our main goal has been to promote effective use of debugging symbols in the .NET universe, especially in combination with symbol and source servers. Microsoft Reference Source has set a great example in this matter and we strongly felt that the OSS community should follow suit. Today, through the SymbolSource website and accompanying services, we are providing a free-as-in-beer symbol and source server for all OSS projects to use. Our biggest wish is for it to become the place of choice for storing symbols and sources of projects released by NuGet, OpenWrap or any other means - thus making the benefits of on-demand symbol and source loading reliably available to the entire .NET community.

Because we believe that all developers should be able to make use of our service, regardless of the licensing of the code they consume or produce, and because we deeply value privacy, we have also provided means to control access to data stored on SymbolSource - this can be achieved through private repositories or company accounts. Everything uploaded to our site retains its original ownership, we are only providing hosting services, much like GitHub does with private source code repositories. We ask that you respect code ownership and licensing and only upload if it is legal for you to do so. On our end we promise not to access or process any data that you upload for any other purposes than to provide SymbolSource services.
